Visit.org Glossary

Definitions, terms, and specialized vocabulary used within the Visit.org platform and organization.  

  • Admin Toolbar - Navigation interface that provides Administrators with access to tools and settings for managing booking, events, registrations, users, and experiences within the Visit.org platform.
  • Assigned - A state specifically referring to Visit.org or Organization staff who are helping to facilitate or run a given event.
  • Attended - A status given to users who attended an event.
  • Attendee - A company employee who attended an event.
  • Attendee Status - A status indicating a user's relationship to a given event.
  • Booking Request - A request submitted by (or on behalf of) a corporate partner to book a given experience and schedule an event.
  • Booking Requester  - The person who submitted the booking request.
  • Bulk Registration - A feature that allows company admin users or Visit.org staff to register multiple participants at once via a CSV file.
  • Calendar Invite - An invitation or block on a registrant's calendar representing a Visit.org event.
  • Canceled  - A company employee who was registered for an event but canceled their registration.
  • Canceled event - A previously confirmed event that is no longer planned.
  • Co-host - An additional Visit.org team member facilitating an event with the organization.
  • Community Member - An person that is part of a specific group that is impacted or influenced through the involvement of a corporate partner via a social impact activity.
  • Completed event - A past event that took place with no further financial requirements.
  • Confirmed event - A scheduled event for a given corporate partner with an agreed upon date and time.
  • Corporate Partner - Corporations that partner with Visit.org by booking and participating in social impact activities.
  • Custom Event - An event that is not based on an experience in the Visit.org experience inventory, and without Visit.org or partner organization involvement.
  • Day of Service - A day where employees are encouraged to participate in their company's social impact efforts.
  • Donation Amount - Amount that goes towards the nonprofit organization to support their cause.
  • ESG - Environmental Social and Governance. A reporting framework companies use to report on their actions in these realms.
  • Event - A scheduled instance of an experience for a given corporate partner.
  • Event Format - How the event is facilitated and how the participants gather. Three main formats: Virtual, In Person, or On Demand.
  • Event Host - The Visit.org team member facilitating an event with the organization.
  • Event Packet - A list of information, including contacts, logistics and arrival instructions, for a given in person event provided to onsite event coordinators and hosts.
  • Event Page - The Visit.org page dedicated to a specific event booked by a corporate partner.
  • Event QR Code - A QR code, unique to a given event, which registers and marks as Attended any company employee who scans it and enters their information onsite at the event.
  • Event Recording - The recording of a past event available for that corporate partner's employees to watch.
  • Event registration confirmation - An email that sends to an employee after successfully registering for an event.
  • Event Settings - An internal, Visit-only page for managing an event.
  • Event Staff - A catch-all term for Visit.org team members involved in an event.
  • Event Status - The current state of a given event.
  • Experience - An activity, project, session, lecture, or other social impact offering available to our corporate partners.
  • Experience Location - Where the experience will take place and is only relevant to in-person experiences. A physical address is shared to participate in the experience. 
  • Experience Page - The Visit.org page dedicated to a given experience in our inventory that allows corporate partners to submit requests to book.
  • Host slides - The slides that a Visit.org event host shares during a virtual event.
  • Impact Investment - Amount totaling the donation fee plus the total volunteer hour value used to measure employee time and dollar value invested by engaging in social impact activities.
  • Impact Report - Report used to review post-event metrics such as participation rate, attendance, impact investment, donation amount, event rating, and poll results. 
  • In Person event - An event with participants joining together in a single location, either at a corporate partner's office or another location.
  • Internal Visit.org Events Calendar - An invitation or block on an internal, shared Google Calendar representing a Visit.org event. 
  • Kit-building Activity - Social engagement activities with a hands-on focus 
    on making packs or kits with different supplies and materials to deliver to beneficiaries.
  • Left Early - A participant status indicating a company employee who attended an online event for less than 10 minutes.
  • Month of Service - A month where employees are encouraged to participate in their company's social impact efforts. 
  • No Show - A status indicating a company employee who registered for an event but did not attend.
  • On Demand event - An event whose content is provided by Visit.org and executed by the corporate partner on a rolling basis over time, without Visit.org staff or an organization present.
  • Onsite Event Coordinator - A Visit.org team member hired to help set up, check in participants, facilitate, and clean up an in person event.
  • Organization - The Non-Profit Organization that is going to be impacted by the event.
  • Organization Facilitator - The person(s) from the organization assigned to facilitate a given event with Visit.org.
  • Organization Location - The place where the organization or nonprofit's headquarters are based in.
  • Panel Discussion Activity - Involves a group of speakers from one or more partner nonprofits gathered to discuss a social impact topic and share different perspectives.
  • Participant - A company employee who plans to or did attend an event.
  • Participation Survey - A brief survey to gather participants' feedback on their experience with the event.
  • Partner Nonprofits - A business that operates independently from the government, furthers a social cause, and provides a public benefit.
  • Partner Social Ventures - Social ventures have a social good mission central to their business model and reason for being. 
  • Past - An event with a start date & time in the past.
  • Pending Event - An event that was recently booked and is in the process of being confirmed by both Visit.org and the nonprofit organization.
  • Producer - A Visit.org team member who assists in the technical setup and facilitation of an online event.
  • Programming - Describes multiple experiences under an umbrella theme. 
  • Project-in-a-Box - Ready-to-implement social impact activities.
  • QR Scanner - A Visit.org feature used by Onsite Event Coordinators and Event Staff to scan participant QR Tickets and mark them Attended at an in person event.
  • QR Ticket - A unique ticket provided to registrants of in person events to be scanned onsite by Visit.org event staff.
  • Register - To provide a name, email, and other information if required, to indicate interest and plans to attend an event.
  • Registered - A status given to users who provide their name, email, and other information if required, indicating that they plan to attend an event.
  • Registrant - A company employee who registered for an event.
  • Registration Deadline - The date and time that registration for a given event becomes unavailable.
  • Requested event - A request for an event that is being reviewed by Visit.org and the organization.
  • Reschedule requested event - A previously confirmed event that is postponed and requires a new date to be set.
  • Run of Show - A document detailing the agenda of a given event with instructions, slide decks and other resources for the event host and staff.
  • Signature/Standard Virtual Library - Collection of virtual experiences with no customization found on the Visit.org Experiences website. 
  • Skills-based Volunteering - A type of social impact activity related to professional development, education, STEM activities, business, entrepreneurship, etc.
  • Social Impact - An emotional commitment the employee has to the company and its goals. 
  • Team Building Activity - A type of social impact activity where employees team up to work together, learn about one another, and build positive relationships while contributing to a good cause.
  • Tech Check - A meeting dedicated to go over the technical details of a virtual call with the purpose of preventing any issues prior to an event. 
  • UN SDGs - These are the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Upcoming event - An event with a start date & time in the future.
  • Virtual event - An event hosted, facilitated, and attended virtually via video conferencing tool.
  • Volunteer Hour - The time spent by an employee that participates in a social impact activity.
  • Volunteer Impact Value - The dollar value of the time spent by an employee that participates in a social impact activity. (Estimated value in the US; source: Independent Sector - Value of Volunteer Time Report)
  • Waitlist - A list of company employees who tried to register for an event, but the capacity was reached before they could register.
  • Waitlisted - A status given to users who are on the waitlist for an event and not registered.
  • Week of Service - A week where employees are encouraged to participate in their company's social impact efforts. 
  • Zoom - Visit.org's default virtual meeting provider.
  • Zoom Polls - Surveys specifically designed and sent via Zoom after a virtual event.
